Ms. Louise Bain Melander passed away Friday, April 5, 2019, at Alpine Living Center in Thornton, Colorado following recent medical complications due to an infection. She was 89.

Ms. Melander was born May 19, 1929, in rural Tyro, Kansas, the daughter of Alfred J. and Rose Eva Bain Melander. She was raised on a farm north of Tyro. She graduated from Caney Valley High School in 1947. She began working for Mobil Oil in Augusta Kansas in 1948.

Ms. Melander graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Wichita State University School of Business Administration in 1969. She moved to Dallas, Texas to work at the Mobil Oil Corporate Headquarters until her retirement in 1985.

Ms. Melander traveled extensively, including overseas trips to Greece and The Holy Land. She enjoyed recreational vehicle travel with her long-time Dallas roommate Jean Wardell. After Ms. Melander’s retirement they would spend summers in Idaho and winters in Dallas. Ms. Melander also enjoyed several ocean cruises, especially to and from Alaska. For their 60th birthdays she and her twin sister Eloise and their family rode the mule train to the Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon to stay the night. For health reasons she relocated from Dallas to Broomfield Colorado in 2016.

Ms. Melander never married and had no children. She was preceded in passing by her two older brothers, Howard Melander and Kenneth Melander, and her identical twin sister, Eloise Swaney and her long-time roommate Jean Wardell. She was survived by her nephews and their families; David Melander and Nick Melander, living in Indiana; Chris Melander and Steve Melander, living in Kansas; and Kurt Swaney, living in Colorado.

Ms. Melander will be buried near her parents at the Fawn Creek Cemetery north of Tyro Kansas. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 10 am at Fawn Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Evangelist David Bycroft will be officiating.
