Kim Lay age 60 passed away on July 29, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with a disease that ravaged her body but not her spirit or her faith in her Lord and Savior.

Kim was born on September 24, 1957 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Melvin "Hoss" and Laverda (McGuire) Folk. Kim attended grade school in Dearing, graduating from Field Kindley High School, she continued her education at Coffeyville Community College. She later returned to school, obtaining her bachelor degree from Pittsburg State University and her master's degree from Friends University. Kim was involved in 4-H with in their youth her sisters, Kathy and Kelly, she had a true talent of cooking, sewing and horseback riding. Kim shared her talents with her family, baking everyone's favorite pie, and sewing costumes for her grandchildren. Kim has never been afraid of hard work or dedication. Working many careers over the years starting at the bank, Haliburton, as a real estate broker and she found her passion at Coffeyville Community College. Over the years she wore many, many hats in a 27 year career, having just retired in May 2018. Her dedication to the CCC Red Raven Booster club will be sorely missed by not only the staff but the students as well. She became a mother to students, fondly known as "Miss Kim", always willing to help. Kim received the Paul Harris Fellow Society award and many other awards for life achievements. Kim and Bill shared a passion for education and established the Bill and Kim Lay Scholarship Fund to carry on their dedication in years to come.

For those who knew Kim understood her driving passion for everything she did. She first and foremost had a love for her God and Savior Jesus Christ, second was her family, she was protective, independent, strong, determined and always went above and beyond. Kim married William "Bill" Lay on June 1, 1976 having just celebrated 42 years of marriage. Together they share the joy of having two sons, Justin and Timothy. Kim was involved with her boys in everything they did, traveling to every sporting event. Kim's true joy of having children intensified when she became "Nana", she cherished every moment with her granddaughter, Charlie and grandsons, Oliver and James. Kim was also that aunt that so many wish they had. She was also a friend that was a true friend for life.

Kim has left quite a legacy, she is survived by her husband, Bill; sons, Justin and his wife Nicola, Timothy and his wife, Jefferie; parents, Melvin and Laverda Folk; grandchildren Charlie Lay, Oliver Lay and James Lay; sisters, Kelly Folk and Kathy and her husband David Hershey; a host of nephews and a niece and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 10 am at Dearing Christian Church where she has worshiped for a lifetime. Burial will take place at Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. So sorry for your loss. One of the hardest things in life is loss of our loved ones. We always want to win the battle. But, for our loved one the battle is over and they are at peace. The hard part is left for us to carry on and keep her dreams going in ways we sometimes don’t understand. One day at a time.... May God bless you and the family during this very trying time.🙏

Kim was my boss at CCC throughout her battle with cancer. I watched her come to work day after day with a smile on her face. She is one of the strongest women I have ever known; the other was my mother. I couldn't have asked for a more competent and caring leader. We would visit every morning and I became very close and protective of Miss Kim. When she would talk about her grandchildren her eyes would light up! She kept a drawing on her office door authored by Charlie her granddaughter. Her grandsons live in England and we always knew when she shut her office doors it was facetime with them. Do Not Disturb! I am praying for peace to all the family knowing that her smile isn't forced through pain anymore.

It’s hard to forget as smile as warm or as bright as Kim’s. She was a wonderful woman with a heart of gold and this world was brighter while she was in it. But, now her spirit is free to soar and her pain is gone. My condolences, and those from my own family, go out to Bill, Justin, Tim, and their families. We are so very, very sorry for the loss of a truly great woman.

I met and worked with Kim at a drive-in bank shortly after I moved to Coffeyville in the mid 70’s. Her and I and another employee, Kathy Bell became close friends as we worked together in the tiny drive through along with our manager Wanda Lamb. We called ourselves Wanda’s Angels! We also began running around together on the weekends. Eventually we all moved on to other jobs and family responsibilities, and Kathy and I leaving Coffeyville, but anytime over the years that I would see Kim I always knew she considered me a friend. I had the pleasure to walk the survivors walk with her at the 2017 Relay for Life which was the last time I saw her. She was a beautiful woman inside & out. My deepest sympathy to her family from a person who had the honor of being a friend of Kim Lay!
