Bobby Lee Kyle

November 6, 1929 ~ October 29, 2019 (age 89)

Obituary

Bobby Lee Kyle, age 89 of Coffeyville, passed away on October 29, 2019 at Windsor Place.

Bobby was born on November 6, 1929 in Chanute to Meredith “Jim” and Erma (Burns) Kyle. Bobby grew up in Erie, where he attended elementary school and graduated from High School with the class of ‘47. He continued his education at Parsons Junior College, where he played football. During this time was when he met the next door neighbor, Dolores Watson, while roller skating at the Parsons outdoor rink. The couple was united in marriage on August 20, 1950.

Bob began teaching in a little country school outside of Erie; there he discovered his love for teaching. He then decided to attend Kansas State Teachers College, now known as Pittsburg State University.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in education, which led him to become the “Mr. Kyle” so many students still remember as their History teacher. Early in their marriage, the couple made their home in Coffeyville, and Bob began a lengthy teaching career at Roosevelt Middle School that would span over 37 years.  Bob and Dolores built their permanent home on 10 acres in what was known as Indian Village, north of Coffeyville.

Bob enjoyed building model airplanes, playing golf, going camping and boating at Grand Lake, feeding his birds, and caring for his home and lawn.  He was very particular in everything he did, as he always wanted to present his best. Bob was a voracious reader, as he had a lifelong thirst for knowledge. This knowledge was put to use building electronics, such as radios and speakers, as well as a train set that sprawled over much of their basement.  Bob also tried his hand at boat building and successfully hand built the boat that provided so many hours of enjoyment on the water. Bob was always a teacher, providing opportunities for others to think.  Running into Bob and being greeted with a multiplication question was common.  Using words such as “confused” would result in him asking if that was spelled with a “C” or a “K.”  He loved teaching, not just as a profession, but throughout his life.

Bob’s memories will live on with his wife of 69 years, Dolores, his brother Ronald Kyle and wife Madelyn, sister-in-law Dixie Cummings, 5 nephews, and 2 nieces.

He now rests with his parents.
