BARBARA LEE SUMMERS 1921-2005 Barbara Lee Summers, age 83, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Friday afternoon, May 13, 2005 in the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born August 31, 1921 and was the chosen child of James Claude and Mary Ethel Gibson Finley. She graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1939 as home economics major. On October 17, 1939, she married Eldon Loren Summers at Angola, Kansas. He preceded her in death. They made their home one mile west of Angola where he was a farmerrancher for 40 years. Mrs. Summers was an active member of the Angola United Methodist Church and was active in Womens, Youth and Childrens Ministries serving both locally and at the district level. Other community activities included 4-H, P.T.O., and Home Extension Club. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved gardening. After their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Summers were widely known for their artistry in porcelain doll creations. They moved to Coffeyville in 1987 and became members of the First United Methodist Church and the Keystone Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Salvation Army Womens Auxiliary, the Art and Literature Club and Christian Womens. She is survived by one son, James David and his wife Linda Harshaw Summers of Valrico, Florida; three daughters, Rita Pickering and husband Dale of Kansas City, Missouri, EldonaDona Jones and husband Ken of rural Parsons, Kansas and Teri Carr and husband Ivan of Coffeyville, Kansas. She had 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter. Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland, Coffeyville. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m., Monday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville. Interment will follow in the Richland Cemetery, rural Angola, Kansas. Memorials have been suggested by the family to the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville or the United Methodist Church of Angola. These remembrances may be left at the funeral home.
