Bobby Joe Whitson

Bobby Joe Whitson, 88, of Coffeyville, KS passed away January 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was born on August 17, 1937, to Luther (Luke) Whitson and Viola Lee (Tinney) Whitson in Hutchinson, KS.

Bob served 22 years in the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant. Some of his favorite memories include working as a member of the Military Police, also working as an Air Force recruiter and getting to meet Elvis. After an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, Bob continued his career in the Civil Service where he enjoyed supervising staff and coordinating sporting events. Some of his hobbies included softball, racquetball, football when he was young, and golf.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Luke and Viola, brother Gene, sisters, Flo and Mary, niece Linda, and a nephew, Joey.

He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Judith Ann (McAfee) Whitson, his daughter Renae (Whitson) Elliott, son in law Jonathan Elliott, stepson Derek McAfee, Derek’s husband Jaime Morlan, brother in law Dale Wilson, nephew Roger Wilson, 3 grandchildren; Tori (Elliott) Wesche, Shane Elliott, Silas Elliott, 1 great grandchild; Amy Elliott, several nieces and nephews. Special mentions, Michelle Larkin; Justin, Kelsy, Colton, and Easton Austin; Rob, Katy, Bridger, and Baker Scott.

Funeral Services are to be held January 21, 2026, at 2 pm, at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave, Coffeyville, KS.
