Boyd Alan Hamlin

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Boyd Alan Hamlin, age 55, of Coffeyville, Kansas. Boyd peacefully departed this life at his home, and it brings comfort to know he now rests in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Boyd was born on August 9, 1969, to Albert Eugene “Gene” and Beverly Ann (Bryant) Hamlin in Independence, Kansas. He grew up in Coffeyville attending grade school at Edgewood, Jr. High at Roosevelt and a 1987 graduate of Field Kindley. Pursuing his calling in youth ministry, he furthered his education at Ozark Christian College, where he earned his bachelor’s in ministry in 1991.

While in college Boyd met the love of his life Melanie Harp and the two were married in Aurora, Colorado at the Gateway Church. The couple’s made their home in Tulsa where Boyd accepted the call for Youth Pastor at Highland Park Christian Church they resided there until God moved them to Paramount Terrace now known as Hillside Church in Amarillo, Texas. God blessed Boyd and Melanie with two sons, Collin and Cody that were of course the typical preachers’ kids, each with their own spark of onery. It was after some time he and Melanie were called to move their family Rio Rancho, New Mexico to start a church, that was the beginning of Discover Church. God then called them to a move to Chandler, Arizona now for a position for Melanie as their life took a different journey, this season of life allowed Boyd to recover from an extensive brain surgery and intense physical therapy to overcome transverse myelitis. Little did they know that the challenges they incurred would create a beautiful caregiving bond between the two and would then turn to Boyd gracefully supporting Melanie through her brave battle with breast cancer until her passing on January 18, 2024.

If you were able to look Boyd up in a dictionary you would find a long definition; he loved Christ, he was spiritual, real, compassionate, loved people non-judgmentally and simply where they were at in life, he was thoughtful, impactful, a leader of his home and of the church, servant, organizer, meticulous, relational, a getter done kind of guy and a survivor.

Boyd’s call to the ministry was way beyond the confined walls of a church building. As a youth he co-founded the Christ in Action Youth Center in Coffeyville. He continuously sought ways to inspire and uplift others, just as Jesus would. His involvement with the John Maxwell team, authorship of children's books, and his founding of Hero Builders, a youth curriculum focused on nurturing the emotional well-being of students, reflected his lifelong passion for helping others feel seen, heard, and cherished.

His sons Collin and Cody now have grown into men with their own families they have now lost their hero, a man that gave them grace when life lessons were learned, loved them unconditionally, and taught them by example of how to be a man, husband, father and grandpa. Life will never quite be the same for these young men, but their parents have laid a good foundation for them and taught them that nothing is impossible with God by their side. Collin and his wife Stefani were the first to have a son Asher, who was cradled in the loving arms of both Grandma Melanie and Grandpa Boyd. Cody and his wife Brianna were first to have a girl Chloe who unfortunately arrived after Grandma Melanie’s passing, but Grandpa Boyd couldn’t wait to hold her and tell her all about her Grandma Mel. His parents Gene and Beverly grieve deeply for their son who they have watched grow into a man and have thanked God for allowing them to be his parents, they are so proud of the man he became, the bond between he and his mom was simply unmeasurable. His brother Darin lost his best friend, oh sure they had their fair share of sibling rivalry, but they always had each other’s back, and Darin’s wife Kay lost a wonderful brother-in- law and Brooklyn and (Trevor) Ferguson and Dalson Hamlin and (Emma) and their children had one amazing uncle. Boyd also leaves behind his father and mother-in-law Melvin & Sandra Harp and Melanie’s siblings Charles (Llana), Chris (Tammy), Caren (Mark) Hardison, Gail Snell.

Boyd touched the lives of many during his time with us and will continue to through the legacy he leaves behind.
