Obituary

Bruce M. Dodson, age 63 of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Bruce was born on June 15, 1963, to Richard Eugene and Willias Villena (Parks) Dodson in Independence, Kansas where he also grew up and graduated from Independence High School in 1981.

After high school Bruce enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served his country receiving an honorable discharge. After returning home he began the electrical program at CCC Technical Campus where he completed his education receiving his electrical certificate.

Bruce became a member of the IBEW Local 226 and began working in various places. He also started B&D Services working as an independent electrician on the side. Bruce began working for the City of Coffeyville in the electrical department and continued to work there until his retirement after fifteen plus years of service. In addition, his electoral career also owned and managed several rental properties and raised cattle.

Bruce was an adventure-seeking individual, he enjoyed sky diving, riding motorcycles, and all types of ATV . He loved music, especially rock-and-roll and played in several bands over the years as lead guitarist. He was a hard worker and played as hard as he worked.

Friends and family will remember him as a kind and charitable person with a big heart. He was always there willing to help in any way he could.

Bruce was deeply loved by his children, Kimberly and Kenny. They knew their dad was larger than life, and they will always cherish the memories of a man who embraced life fully and lived each day to its fullest.

Bruce will be deeply missed by his children Kimberly and her husband James Helkenberg and Kenny Dodson, girlfriend Cindy Bates, sister Christine Haynor, niece Jeanne, best friend Randy DePue, his best dog ever, Bella and his pet donkey Tony. He was preceded in death by his parents.

His family will receive friends on Friday July 17, 2026, at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville from 4-7pm. Bruce will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery following Private Family Services. The family request memorial contributions to be made payable to CVMPA (Coffeyville Veterans Memorial Park Association assisting with the collection of funds for the new Court of Valor monument.)
