David Sandon

David G. Sandon of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away at the age of 67 on July 23, 2021, at CRMC after several years of failing health.

David was born on July 7, 1954, to Herbert “Bud” and Betty Jo (Neese) Sandon in Coffeyville, Kansas.  David attended grade school at Garfield and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High in 1972.  He attended Coffeyville Community Junior College prior to his employment with Roadway where he retired after 25 years of services. He was a proud and active member of the Teamsters Union.

David married the love of his life Peggy Cooke on November 2, 1979, in Coffeyville in their home, of that union two children were born, Jennifer and Kyle.  After his retirement Peggy and David traveled to several places of interest taking full opportunity of enjoying retirement. In November of 1998 they moved to rural Labette County to fulfill their dreams of life back on the farm where they could be found working side by side with each other.  David thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors if he wasn’t working in the hay field, feeding cattle, or mending fence he was out hunting or fishing.

David was one in a million, he was tougher than a leather boot and the nails that holds the soles together.  David was first dedicated to his wife and family, he would have given the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it, and often helped people when they least expected it.  He has spent a lifetime of dedication to the Coffeyville Fair and Rodeo Association.  He was that no filter kind of guy that worked hard his entire life right up until his death.   David wouldn’t have called himself a teacher, but he was just that!  He enjoyed teaching the younger generation about the outdoors; teaching anyone who wanted to learn about hunting, fishing, raising cattle, farming, haying, working on farm equipment, anything they wanted to learn.

Family and friends often gather at David and Peggy’s house to share in a holiday, game night or just for conversation.  David was quite onery and you knew he liked you if he gave you a hard time.  A perfect example is he always wanted to make sure that no one left hungry from their home but would then razz you about eating all his food.

Family gatherings, a time to celebrate holidays, birthdays,  and anniversaries will never be quite the same for his wife, Peggy of the home; daughter, Jennifer Troutman and her husband Rick, son, Kyle Sandon and his wife, Tyler; grandchildren, Ashlie French and her husband Zach, Nick Nolen, Michaela Nolen and boyfriend, Gilbert Brignoni, Cooper Sandon, Claire Sandon, Corbin Sandon, Gunner Troutman and fiancé Ashleigh Dangerfield, Johnathan Troutman; great-grandchildren, Michael French, Benny Troutman; brother, Mark Sandon and his wife Tracy; sisters, Janet Wall; brother-in-law, Joel Leedy; mother-in-law, Lee Wanda Cooke, brother-in-law Tim Cooke and his wife Janet; sisters-in-law, Janet Groves and her husband Danny, Pam Payne; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.   David was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Leedy, his father-in-law, Gene Cooke and brother-in-law, Tim Payne.

A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 10:30 am at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 2000 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville with Pastor Dick Smith officiating.  A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, from 5 to 7 pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., also in Coffeyville.  Per David’s request make memorial contributions payable to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children and they may be left in care of the chapel.  To leave an online condolence or share a memory visit
