Gene Dale Brooks age 90 of Nowata, OK passed away on February 23, 2019 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.

Dale also known by Bud was born on January 15, 1929 in Independence, KS to Dee and Beatrice (Stanley) Brooks. He attended the rural Sunnyside School up until moving to California where he began working odd jobs. He moved back to Havana where he married Elinor Thompson on November 23, 1947 in Havana. The couple was blessed with a son and two daughters. They made their home in Wichita where he found employment with Boeing, he later opened a barber shop, and then started driving a big rig. In 1974 Elinor passed away and in 1975 Dale moved him and his youngest daughter to Independence where he drove a school bus for a short time and continued some trucking. He met Patsy Smith Clark and they joined each other in marriage on June 24, 1995. They made South Coffeyville their home and later settled in Nowata.

Dale spent some of his free time woodworking and enjoyed playing his guitar any chance he could get. He belonged to the Old Time Kansas Pickers and Fiddlers. Friends and family that knew him best smile when they say he was a touch outspoken, but he had a deep love for his family and thought the world of his great-grandchildren.

Dale's memories will live on with his wife Patsy, Children, Kenneth Brooks, Melinda Turner her husband Rod, Amy DeMoss her husband Terry Step-children David Clark his wife Esther, and Pamela Dotson her husband Robert, grandchildren, Michael Finney, Jacob Russell, Rachel Finney, Jessica Russell-Harold, Tara Bell, Lauren Houghton, Nicholas DeMoss, Jessie Dotson, Dalton Dotson, and William Dotson, great-grandchildren, Quintin Ausemus, Madelynn Bell, Jayden Houghton, Kayson Houghton, Isabelle Russell, Kellen Finney, Cooper DeMoss, Noah Russell, Melina Finney, Eden Russell, Lakyn DeMoss, Aubrey Russell, and Cash Dotson.

Dale now rests with his parents, wife Elinor, brother, Russell Brooks and sister, Marie Logan.

It was Dale's wishes to have himself willed to the University Of Kansas Medical Center for education and research. The family will be holding a celebration of life service on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at New Hope Christian Church, 908 E 4th St., Cherryvale, KS 67335 at 11 am. Friends are invited to sign the register anytime between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Friday, March 29 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas 67337. The family suggests memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Coffeyville Friends or Animals and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel 2405 Woodland Ave Coffeyville, KS 67337.
