Herman Mcafee

Herman E. McAfee, 83, of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Herman was born December 9, 1924 in Winchester, Kansas, the son of Lacy and Marie Dixon McAfee. He attended school at Valley Falls, Kansas until the age of 17, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our country from 1942 until 1946 as Gunners Mate, Petty Officer 3rd Class. On July 15, 1944, he married Esther Van Druff in Valley Falls, Kansas. She survives. Herman was employed as a Rancher working in Jefferson County, Madison, Longton, Sedan, and Independence, Kansas and Pawhuska, Oklahoma until his retirement 1997 when they moved to Caney, Kansas. Also surviving are his children, Gloria McAfee of Hugo, Oklahoma, Richard McAfee of Caney, Kansas, Kenneth McAfee of Madill, Oklahoma, and Judith Whitson of Coffeyville, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and siblings James, Marge, Donald, Norma, Eldon, Russell, and Sharon. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth.
