Jack Neal Lowther, 92, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Jack was born on November 17, 1921 in Inola, Oklahoma. He grew up and was raised on the Indian Reservation in Claremore, Oklahoma where he attended school. Jack served his country proudly, serving in the United States Army. After he received his honorable discharge he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement. After retirement, Jack worked for TGY in Coffeyville and also provided security for the high school from time to time. But the one thing he will be remember most for was the twenty one years he served as a crossing guard for Edgewood Elementary School. Kids would cross the street one at a time just for a chance to hold his hand as they crossed.
In 1976 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lois Avery. The couple were the perfect match, they blended their families and created many memories and a beautiful life for their selves. In October of 2013, Lois preceded him in death. Jack and Lois were members of Grace Fellowship Church for many years. The two of them loved to dance, and everyone around them enjoyed watching. They took the kids on countless memorable trips to Branson, Missouri and Harbor Village in Grove, Oklahoma. Jack was very proud of his Cherokee Indian background. He enjoyed going to local PowWows from time to time. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and was a member of the 32nd Masonic Lodge in Claremore, Oklahoma. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing and watching all the grandchildren grow.
Surviving to honor his memory are his children, Jeanie Rocky Hill, Judsonia, AR Sue Kinnison, Bartlesville, OK Marilyn Starnes, Coffeyville, KS Kristy Kenneth Holder, Moore, OK Johnny Tosh, Judsonia, AR Larry Tosh, Coffeyville, KS Hope Chris Ramsey, Coffeyville, KS grandchildren, Shane and Shawn Shy, Nikki Bonham, Jessica, and Derek Kinnison, Sarah Howell, Billy Fletcher, Casey, Tiffany, Samantha, Logan, Derrick and Larry Tosh, Jr., Shelby Lowther, Christopher and Dillon Ramsey, Bobby and Kimberly Tosh great grandchildren, Zachary, Natasha, Joeshia, Shyanne, Sarah, Stephanie, Emma, Evan, Kegan, Skylar, Noah, Austin, Brayden, Cameron, Andrew, TJ and Chandra.
In addition to being preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois, he was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Viola Lowther and a granddaughter, Amanda Tosh.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Windsor Place Eden Alternative these may be left with the funeral home.
