James Roberts

.

James D Roberts age 86 of Coffeyville passed away on March 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Jim was born on June 22, 1933 at the family farm not far from his current home to Fred and Frances (Martin) Roberts. He attended grammar school at McKennon and graduated from Labette Community High School in Altamont. Jim then joined the United States Army where he proudly served from 1953 to 1955 when he was honorably discharged. Jim returned home to Coffeyville where he began a lengthy career at what was then Funk Manufacturing. In 1988 after 37 years of dedicated service Jim retired and devoted more of his time to his ranch. Jim loved ranching and all the animals that lived on it from his cats, dogs, cattle, and maybe a special love for the many quarter horses he bred and raised over the years; producing some world champion barrel racers. Jim went to the sale barn every week, he even volunteered for the chance to work his horse in the arena.  As soon as the sun rose Jim was up working or feeding some animal and the work didn’t stop until the sun went down and often even past sundown. Jim was united in marriage to Barbara Sue Morrow and they were blessed with four children losing one in infancy, the couple later divorced. Jim met Shirley Cook in August of 1997 and the couple married on December 30, 1999, she survives of the home. Jim was great a human that was loved by many, he was fair, worked hard, and never spoke down to anyone. He rarely complained and loved spending time with his family any chance he had. Jim had a 10-mile radius rule, he never cared to be outside of that radius from home; he was born, lived, and died within those 10 miles that he loved and called home.

Jim’s memories will live on with his wife Shirley, children; Ken Roberts his wife Mary, Shawn Roberts his wife Christie, Wahnee Jasso her husband Jesus, step-son Will Shinn his wife Chris, and step-daughter Karen Glazier her husband Danny, brothers; Bob Roberts his wife Reba and Joe Roberts his late wife Verla, sister Pat Layton her late husband R.E., grandchildren; Susana Jasso, Jesse Jasso, and Justin Roberts, Katy Forth 5 step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Jim now rests with his parents and his baby son.
