James Talmadge

James Roy Talmadge age 85, formerly of Coffeyville passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016 at his home in Claremore, Oklahoma.

James was born on March 15, 1931 to Marjory L (Clark) and Roy Talmadge in Chanute, KS. He attended school in Chanute until moving to Wyoming his senior year graduating from Cheyenne, WY in 1949. He met the love of his life, Billie Carey, at a Junior High Basketball game in Chanute at the age of 14. They were married in a home ceremony on November 21, 1951 while he was on his leave from the Navy. James joined the US Navy on June 14, 1950. Stationed in New London, CT and Norfolk, Va. and the USS Sirago Submarine. He was honorably discharged on April, 7, 1954. The couple made their home in Coffeyville until moving to Claremore in 1994 after retirement to be near family. James worked for more than 25 years at Sherwin Williams in Coffeyville and retired from National Zinc in Bartlesville,OK. He loved gardening and traveling with his wife, together they visited every state except Hawaii during retirement in their RV. Billie preceded him in death on February 13, 2015.

James was a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Claremore, past two-time Worthy Patron of Coffeyville Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, 60 year member of Keystone Masonic Lodge 102 and Coffeyville VFW Post 1022.

Survivors include, his daughters, Cheryl Potter and husband Dwight of Madison, AL, Linda and Randy Floyd of Claremore, OK; grandchildren, Eric Potter and Wife, Annette, Jamie Haynes and husband Steve, Ashley Strode and husband Brandon, Andy Floyd and wife Sarah, Mindy Floyd; great grandchildren, Jake and Ethan Haynes, Brett and Hannah Potter, Brayden and Camden Strode. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Bille.

A Memorial Service honoring James and Billie will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 11:00 am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Wooodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS. Reverend Charlie Lehman of Washington Baptist Church in Claremore, OK, will be officiating. A private inurnment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
