Jerry L. Winters, beloved son, husband and dad, and grandpa of Edna, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri.at the age of 64. He was born on May 24, 1962, to Jerry L. Winters Sr. and Cora (Fowler) WInters in Parsons, Kansas. Jerry spent his lifetime in the community of Edna where he attended grade school then on to Altamont for high school graduating from Labette County High School in 1980. He met and married Dee Best May 8, 1981, they just celebrated 45 years of marriage of that union one son Jeremy was born.
Jerry had a lengthy employment career starting in 1971 – 2023. He owned and operated several businesses: Southside Performance, Edna Highlights, and food truck Winners Grill. His fulltime employment was with Magic Circle, Parmac, Muller Construction, all of Coffeyville, Kansas; G&G Dozier in Caney, Kansas and Warten Caterpillar in Owasso, Oklahoma before retiring to his ultimate job of being Grandpa to of two grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Jerry demonstrated kindness, resilience, and a steadfast dedication to those around him and his Edna community that he loved and respected. His unwavering character made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a volunteer at Cross Timbers Food Bank; he was on the City Council for the City of Edna for several terms in addition to being Mayor for 12 years. Jerry was also a volunteer firefighter on the Edna Fire Department for over 30 years serving as chief for 10 years. In 1978 he took up drag racing and his favorite car was a front engine dragster named Injected Chaos. Then in 1979 Jerry took up stock car racing until 2022, winning many track championships.
Jerry's legacy is one of respect and dignity. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him but not more than his wife Dee of the home, son Jeremy Winters and daughter-in-law Katie, grandchildren Harper and Hudson Winters, mother, Cora Winters, brother Roger Winters, nephew Ryan Winters, his aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers-in-laws, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Jerry L. Winters Sr..
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, located at 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may pay their respects at the chapel on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jerry's memory to EVFD or Cross Timers Food Bank. Contributions may be made payable to either organization and left in the care of the chapel.
As we remember Jerry, we reflect with gratitude on a life well lived—a life marked by hard work, kindness, generosity, and a deep love for his family, friends, and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
