Joyce Briggs 1932 - 2005 Joyce Briggs, age 72, Coffeyville resident, passed away on March 26, 2005 at the St. Johns Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on May 7, 1932 in Picher, Oklahoma to Claude and Lois Thompson Colley. In 1950 she graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville. Joyce married Joseph D. Briggs on May 31, 1951. She was a Navy wife who lived in many locations with her husband and sons, including California, Florida, Rhode Island and overseas on the Mediterranean Island of Cyprus. After Joe retired from the Navy in 1967, they returned to Coffeyville. Joyce was devoted to taking care of her family and always loved being involved in family activities, especially during the holidays. Joyce was a former pink lady of the Hospital Auxillary who enjoyed working in the snack bar and interacting with people. She loved life, traveling, laughter and family. She was a member of the Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church of Coffeyville. She is survived by her husband Joseph D. Briggs of the home; two sons, Joe Briggs, Jr. and wife Linda of Coffeyville; Tom Briggs and wife Karen of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Barbara Johnson of Coffeyville; one brother, Larry Colley of Lawrence, Kansas; Six Grandchildren; Amanda and husband Steven Gillham of Chesterfield, Missouri; Jessica and Luke Briggs of Coffeyville; Karlie, Emily and Allison Briggs all of Dallas, Texas; and her first great grandchild due in July. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Connie Carrol. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Penwell-Gabel Ford, Wulf, Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the Penwell-Gabel Ford, Wulf, Bruns Chapel. Pastor Wayne Martin of the Emmanuel Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will take place in the Penwell-Gabel Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Coffeyville. Memorial contributions may be given to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxillary.
