Joycelyn Downing
She was born in 1946 in Sedan, KS to Elisha Barber and Evelyn "Hayes” Barber. During High School, she met and later married the love of her life and loving husband, Marvin Downing. They were 14 and 15 years old at the time that they met and began dating. They have continued to remain together for 63 years and just recently celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary, November 2023.
They had one biological child, Angela Downing born in 1972. Joycelyn was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a homemaker and for 14 years also a teacher/childcare provider at the Westside Daycare Center in Coffeyville, KS. She touched so many lives throughout the years and was truly loved by many.
In July of 1997 she was proud to have become a grandmother for the first time and had 3 beautiful grandchildren.
On January 14, 1967, she was baptized and became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She had some of the best years of her life...as she would say. She enjoyed participating in the Christian Ministry sharing good news with others from the Bible. Joycelyn especially loved spending time with her family and friends, fishing, dancing, and going on wonderful vacations, and more.
She is proceeded in death by her father, Elisha Barber, and mother Evelyn "Hayes” Barber. As well as 6 of her brothers and 4 of her sisters. Joycelyn is survived by her husband, Marvin Downing of Coffeyville, KS, her daughter Angela Downing of Bartlesville, OK, and her 3 grandchildren, Seanta Downing of Tulsa, OK, Alexus Downing of Bartlesville, OK and Tre' Downing of Bartlesville, OK and 2 sisters, Betty Barber of Kansas City, MO and Louise Fobbs of Las Vegas, NV. As well as an extensive number of nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Book signing and viewing will be on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 5p.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. also at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.
Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery following the service.
