Kim Lay

Kim Lay age 60 passed away on July 29, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with a disease that ravaged her body but not her spirit or her faith in her Lord and Savior.

Kim was born on September 24, 1957 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Melvin "Hoss" and Laverda (McGuire) Folk. Kim attended grade school in Dearing, graduating from Field Kindley High School, she continued her education at Coffeyville Community College. She later returned to school, obtaining her bachelor degree from Pittsburg State University and her master's degree from Friends University. Kim was involved in 4-H with in their youth her sisters, Kathy and Kelly, she had a true talent of cooking, sewing and horseback riding. Kim shared her talents with her family, baking everyone's favorite pie, and sewing costumes for her grandchildren. Kim has never been afraid of hard work or dedication. Working many careers over the years starting at the bank, Haliburton, as a real estate broker and she found her passion at Coffeyville Community College. Over the years she wore many, many hats in a 27 year career, having just retired in May 2018. Her dedication to the CCC Red Raven Booster club will be sorely missed by not only the staff but the students as well. She became a mother to students, fondly known as "Miss Kim", always willing to help. Kim received the Paul Harris Fellow Society award and many other awards for life achievements. Kim and Bill shared a passion for education and established the Bill and Kim Lay Scholarship Fund to carry on their dedication in years to come.

For those who knew Kim understood her driving passion for everything she did. She first and foremost had a love for her God and Savior Jesus Christ, second was her family, she was protective, independent, strong, determined and always went above and beyond. Kim married William "Bill" Lay on June 1, 1976 having just celebrated 42 years of marriage. Together they share the joy of having two sons, Justin and Timothy. Kim was involved with her boys in everything they did, traveling to every sporting event. Kim's true joy of having children intensified when she became "Nana", she cherished every moment with her granddaughter, Charlie and grandsons, Oliver and James. Kim was also that aunt that so many wish they had. She was also a friend that was a true friend for life.

Kim has left quite a legacy, she is survived by her husband, Bill; sons, Justin and his wife Nicola, Timothy and his wife, Jefferie; parents, Melvin and Laverda Folk; grandchildren Charlie Lay, Oliver Lay and James Lay; sisters, Kelly Folk and Kathy and her husband David Hershey; a host of nephews and a niece and great nieces and nephews.
