Louise Merchant age 81 of Coffeyville passed away on December 7, 2017 at Jane Phillips Medical Center.
Louise was born in Oronogo, Missouri on March 6, 1936 to Homer and Flora (Neff) VanDorn. She attended school in Oronogo and Coffeyville. Louise was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Merchant on June 7, 1958 at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. The couple was blessed with a son and two daughters. Louise started waitressing at various restaurants from a young age. She worked 12 years for the Coffeyville Country Club and managed the Back Room restaurant for close to 10 years. She also managed the Parsons Country Club for a couple years. In 1985, she and Bob purchased the Pig Stand, owning and operating it for 18 years. Louise was the definition of a hard worker. Serving the community everyday was more than a job to Louise, she loved visiting with the regulars, meeting new customers, and visiting with her friends. Some of her favorite past times were reading fictional novels and staying up to date on current events, especially political news. She adored her family, her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Louise's memories will live on through her children, Robert Merchant Jr his wife Linda, Kelly Burnick her husband Dale, Christy Stimpson, brother Homer "Sonny" VanDorn, grandchildren Keri Wooderson her husband Blake, Amanda Maurer her husband Johnny, Breanne Cummings her husband Andy, Brock Burnick, Jarred Merchant, and Katie Merchant, great-grandchildren Autumn and Tucker Wooderson, Damien, Declan, and Brent Maurer.
She now rests with her parents, her husband of 46 years Bob, son-in-law Bruce Stimpson, and sister Mary Witwer.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday December 13, 2017 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family an hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Chapel. The family suggests memorials be made payable to the American Diabetes Association and they may be sent to the Chapel.
