Malcom Douglas Critchfield

Malcolm Douglas Critchfield, fondly known as Doug, passed away on February 19, 2026, at the Medical Lodges in Midland, where he had resided for the past few years. Born on March 17, 1937, in Hutchinson, Kansas, Doug was the son of Justice Warner and Audrey Evelyn Bizzle Critchfield.

Doug's early years were spent in Fullerton, California, where his family relocated during his childhood. He completed his education there before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1955, serving honorably until 1959. Upon his return, Doug began his career at Gorman Machine Corporation where he pursued a role as a sales representative on the West Coast, which allowed him to combine his knowledge of machinery with his passion for travel, attending various sales conferences both nationally and internationally.

In a heartfelt gesture of love and support, Doug moved to Coffeyville to care for his mother after the passing of his father. It was here that he met his beloved wife, Diana Freeman. The two were united in marriage on February 14, 2009, having first met on Valentine's Day a decade earlier. Their shared love for adventure saw them embark on day trips together multiple times a week, cherishing every moment spent in one another's company.

Doug had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, often taking long drives to enjoy the beautiful countryside. He was especially proud of his restored 1953 weapons carrier, which he relished driving at every opportunity. He also enjoyed spending time in their backyard, surrounded by Diana's stunning flower gardens and the companionship of their two beloved huskies.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Freeman; his son, Mark Critchfield and wife Lori; his daughter, Susan Graves and husband Jerry; grandchildren Steven Critchfield, Amanda Wilson and husband Andrew, Jason Critchfield, Eric Burns and wife Jacque, Timothy Burns and wife Jessica; and eight great-grandchildren. Doug is also survived by step-siblings Herschel, Layla Marie, Doris, and Thelma. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Herschel Critchfield, Layla Marie, Doris, Thelma, Lee Critchfield and Earl Critchfield, along with their spouses.

In accordance with Doug’s wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, with no formal services. He will be laid to rest alongside his mother, Evelyn Critchfield, in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Doug's memory will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared with all who knew him.
