Margaret Betty Vest Margaret Elizabeth Betty Beck Vest, known to many simply as Granny, left this earth on Tuesday October 11, 2005 at the age of 82 to join her loved ones in heaven. Granny was born on January 26, 1923 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Leslie Owen and Mona Lucille Dowell Beck. She spent her childhood years between Colorado and Illinois. She graduated high school from Cripple Creek, Colorado. She worked for the U.S. Government during WWII testing engines for war planes, and later worked for Eastman Kodak in Chicago. She married Minard E. Guinn, and they later
orced. Then she married William L. Bill Vest and they moved to Coffeyville, Kansas in 1956 where they raised their family. After Williams death, she later moved to Pickwick Apartments where she renewed old friendships and made many new ones. Over the course of more than 30 years, Granny was very active in Cub Scouts, Campfire Girls, PTA and the React Club. She enjoyed crocheting, spending time with family and friends, and was an avid traveler. She was always on the go, traveling to visit family or traveling with family to do genealogy research. Grannys children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren: Raymond M. and Jackie Fitzsimmons Guinn both preceded her in death, Mona Kay Crowe and Wayne Akkerman, Nikki Jo Fisher preceded her in death, Tonya Fisher and James Coppinger with Maccia, Austin and Breanna, Janet Crowe and Jerry Bridges with Jay, Cristy Enloe and Terry Freak with Tyann preceded her in death Meranda, Blake, Tori Stoltenberg with Johnny, Aaron, Trenton and Savahna, Tabitha Enloe with Brittney, Shalina and Slater, Ralph Crowe with Shane, Amber, Chad and Summer, Martin Crowe with Nathaniel preceded her in death, Jessica and Casey. Dowell L. and Joyce Burrows Guinn, Connie Guinn preceded her in death, and Kenneth Guinn. Stephen L. Vest preceded her in death. Shelia M. Vest and Ron Knoll, Terri Allen with Cherokee, Travis Willie and Leota Loffer Allen with Terri and Vanessa, Marvin and Lori Knoll. Charles O. and Cindy Gist Vest, Elizabeth Beth Roth and Michael Coffield with Haley, Brandon and Daniel, Charles O. II and Melissa Payne Vest with Alexandria, Sierra and Kaiya, Kenneth Vest and Dayna Lowrey with Kendall. Candy L. Vest and William Bill Hill, Michael Hill and Rebecca Rexwinkle with Madison and Isaiah, Michelle Hill. George W. Vest preceded her in death. John C. Hazel Hallum Vest, Spencer and Anna Tosh Vest, Larry Vest and Bruce Vest. Granny was preceded in death by her sister, Roberta L. Beck Bumgarner, and a nephew, Jerry Bumgarner. Nephews and a niece, Donnie, Tommy and Becky survive her. She has been a Granny to many people over the years and has touched many lives. She will be greatly missed by us all, but will forever be in our hearts. Memorial donations may be given to Trinity Hospice co Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow the service at the Elmwood Cemetery in Coffeyville. Mrs. Vest will lie in state from 1-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 7-8:00 p.m. A special message may be left for the family at www.penwellgabel.com
