Martha David

Martha Louise David, 81, formerly of Independence, Kansas passed away on October 7, 2014 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Martha was born on December 22, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas to Herman and Bessie Hainline Taylor. She grew up in Wichita where she received her high school education from Wichita East High School.

In 1951 she was united in marriage to Judge Kenneth David. The couple resided in Wichita where Martha worked for the Alice Hotel. In 1963 they moved to Topeka, Kansas where Kenneth completed Law School at Washburn University. The couple then moved to Independence, Kansas in 1968 where Kenneth served as District Attorney, District Judge and as the District Court and Administrative Judge until his retirement in 1994. Martha worked as a consultant for Medicare until her retirement in 2003.

In 2004, she moved to Parsons, Kansas to be close to her daughter. She enjoyed reading, cross stitch and mostly spending time with her family and friends.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Lynn David Mowder of Topeka, Kansas grandson, Christopher David Mowder of Edmond, Oklahoma granddaughter, Karen Mowder of Overland Park, Kansas and a sister, Jeannine Sweeney of Excelsior, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and by her loving son, Jeff David.

Cremation has taken place, and family and friends are invited to the Memorial Graveside Service at the Veterans Patio at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas, on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11 a.m.
