Mary Belle Bastian of Coffeyville, KS, was called from this world to attend a great reunion in heaven at the age of 89 on November 21, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Belle was born in Manhattan, KS to David L. and Constance (Clapp) Mackintosh. She attended school in Manhattan and ultimately graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Home Education.
It was during her time attending Kansas State where she met the love of her life, Donald “Don” Bastian.
She married Don on August 4, 1956, in Manhattan, KS. They lived in El Dorado, Wichita, and Bozeman, MT before finally settling down in 1963 to raise their family in Coffeyville, KS. From that union they were blessed with four wonderful children: Lynn, Mark, Kent, and Laurinda.
Mary Belle was a devoted mother and homemaker. She also enjoyed teaching and was a substitute teacher for USD 445 while her children were still in the school district. As if raising four children and managing the home wasn’t enough to keep her busy, she also donated her time and took great pleasure serving as den mother for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Mary Belle was her children’s biggest fan. As such, you could be sure to hear her proudly cheering from the stands at their sporting events. Mary Belle also had a passion to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She made several dresses for Lynn and Laurinda throughout the years to display her talent and skill. She later began working for Walmart where she held a variety of roles until she retired after 30+ years of service to the company.
Mary Belle was very proud of her Scottish heritage. Her father immigrated to the United States from Scotland at the age of 24. She prominently displayed the family tartan throughout her house.
Mary Belle enjoyed spending time with her family and friends the most. She loved throwing birthday parties and hosting holiday get-togethers. Her favorite holiday, Christmas, was always spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Mary Belle was known for always having a smile on her face and offering words of encouragement to those that needed it. She truly had a heart of gold and is deeply missed.
Mary Belle is preceded in Death by: Her parents, David L. and Constance (Clapp) MacKintosh. Her husband Donald, daughter Lynn and son-in-law JR Morrow, son Mark Bastian, daughter Laurinda and son-in-law Mark Jones, great grandson Baylor James, as well as her brothers, David and Donald MacKintosh.
