Mary Kay was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 8, 1947 to James Bruce Phillips and Frances Irene (Schabel) Phillips. Mary Kay attended Holy Family School in her youth and was a parishioner at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mary Kay graduated from Hammond High School in Hammond, Indiana in 1965. Mary Kay married J. After moving to Coffeyville, Mary Kay held several occupations before finding her true calling at Tri-County Special Education Cooperative in Independence, Kansas. Mary Kay took great pride and joy in sewing Halloween costumes for her two grandchildren. She often spent months searching for the right patterns and materials, and the end results were nothing short of spectacular. Christmas, however, was her favorite holiday. She enjoyed buying Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren each year that were unique to their interests and personalities. Mary Kay invested significant time and energy decorating her home for Christmas. Her Christmas tree was a sight to behold. Mary Kay enjoyed attending athletic events and activities for her two grandchildren. Later in life she became interested in genealogy along with her niece.
