Maurice Cherry

Maurice Gene Cherry was born to Emma Lee and Wilbur Cherry and Foster Son of Opal Hicks Smith and John H. Hicks on June 13, 1949 in Coffeyville, Kansas.

He attended Cleveland Grade School, Roosevelt Jr. High School, and Field Kindley High School. Maurice served in the United States Army from May 9, 1969 for three years during Vietnam. He was employed at Sherman Williams Refinerary, Nuway Grocery Store and Coffeyville Memorial Hospital.

Maurice Cherry departed this life on Friday, November 1, 2013. He was preceded in death by his Mother Emma and Father Wilbur Cherry, foster parents Opal Hicks Smith and John H. Hicks, grandparents Annie Mae Slaughter and Chancey Harrison and one brother Arnal Davis.

He leaves to cherish his memory four children Anthony Allen of Wichita, Ks, Timothy Allen of Wichita, Ks, Derrick Cherry of Fort Worth, Texas, Cassandra Allen Wallace of Fort Worth, Texas six sisters and one brother Lorene Green of Spiro, Tx, Marie Johnson of Coffeyville, Ks, Louise Walker of Tulsa, Ok, Opal Phelps of Bartlesville, Ok, Sandra Kennard of Tulsa, Ok, Charlesetta Rogers of Tulsa, Ok and Ray Davis of Coffeyville, Ks and a host of nieces and nephews, also other relatives and friends.

He will be sadly missed, but joyfully remembered.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the FordWulfBruns Chapel with the Reverend Virgil Horn officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the FordWulfBruns Chapel.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the FordWulfBruns Chapel.
