Michael Dean Hughey

Michael Dean Hughey, age 74 passed away on July 6, 2025 with his family at his side in Coffeyville, Kansas at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Mike was a devoted husband, a cherished father, and an amazing big brother, whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him.

Mike was born on November 9, 1950 and had two wonderful parents, Betty Jean (Peace) and John R. Sullivan. Mike had a little sister Patti that annoyed him until they grew just a bit older and then she became his best friend. Mike spent his reformative year attending Coffeyville schools and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School. Shortly after, he answered the call of duty and bravely served in the Army during the Vietnam War, returning home pursuing his passion for drafting. His first position as a Draftsman was at Phillips 66, he later found roles at Jensen's and Terra World, where he served as Vice President until his retirement.

Mike married Jacquelyn Cambron and of that union a son was born, Cambron Hughey. The couple later divorced but the love they shared for their son remained.

Mike's heart found true love and joy when he met Kim Jensen. They married on June 28, 1991, building a life rich in love and laughter, one that centered around their shared passion for music. Mike embraced the role of a loving stepfather to John Cross. The deep bond he shared with Kim shaped his spirit, and her passing on March 15, 2019, left a profound impact on his heart.

Music was not just a pastime for Mike; it was the very essence of who he was. He poured his soul into every note as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and recording engineer. As a founding member of both The River Road Band and the Verdigris Band, he created melodies that resonated with many. Mike also enjoyed computer gaming, connecting with friends from all over the world, and he lovingly passed on his passions for music and gaming to his son, Cambron.

Mike leaves behind his sons Cambron Hughey and John Cross and wife Jessica, his sister Patti Miesner, her children, Jill her husband Spencer, Kyle, Kelly, Kate her husband Bill, Anne and her husband Wade, Kristi and her husband Tommy, and numerous great nieces and nephews, as well extended family of a host friends.
