Neila Fern Buetow Herold, 96, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma died Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at her home. Neila was born on April 13, 1929 in Angola, Kansas, to Silas Odie and Dorothy Dimple Olson. She attended and graduated high school in Altamont, KS where she was a baton twirler in the band.
On October 5, 1947 she married Charles Paul Buetow at Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, KS. Charles preceded her in death on January 26, 1994. After living in Stillwater, OK and Parsons KS, they made their home in Coffeyville, KS in 1958 where they raised their four children. Neila was a homemaker and devoted her life to raising her children. She was always busy canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, cooking, cleaning, doing yard work, and baking. She always made sure there was a delicious home cooked meal every evening for her family, as well as after-school homemade treats for her children. Homemade pies, cakes, and cookies were a few of her specialties and were always family favorites. She was just simply our “Nee Nee” and could not have been a more devoted Mother or loved more by her children.
On August 1, 2002, she was united in marriage to Henry H. Herold. They made their home together in Edna, KS for seven years. Henry preceded her in death on September 1, 2009. Neila continued to live in the home until 2018 when she moved to Sand Springs, OK where she resided with her daughter, Sandra Buetow until the time of her death.
Neila was a devout Christian and was confirmed and baptized in 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons, KS. Her confirmation verse was Acts 2: Verse 47. She was later a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Coffeyville, Kansas where she and Charles attended with their children for many years.
She is survived by her son, Michael Buetow of Blue Springs, MO; three daughters, Michelle “Shelly” Bell (Don) of Sapulpa, Ok, Sandra Buetow of Sand Springs, OK, and Tamara Olson (Scott) of Republic, MO; one stepson, David Herold (Suzann) of Altamont, KS, one stepdaughter, Sharon Paul (Gary) of Brownsburg, IN; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren: four great great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; two step great great grandchildren; and one sister, June Haverfield of Gardner, KS.
Neila was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles Mark Buetow; four grandchildren, Amanda and Marisa Buetow, Matthew Buetow, and David Mueller; one brother, Albert Olson; one sister, Dorothy “Pody” Emmert; and one step grandson, Matt Herold.
Funeral services are pending at this time and will be posted as soon as available but will be held at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 506 W 9th in Coffeyville, KS. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Independence, KS. Memorials are recommended to Missouri Synod Lutheran Ministries in St Louis, MO, and The American Cancer Society.
