Olga Heaven

Olga Jewel Heaven, age 92, of Coffeyville, passed away on December 8, 2015 at Windsor Place.

She was born June 25, 1923, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Arlene Williams and Percy Davis. Having lost her mother when she was 2 years old, she was raised by her father's sister, Odee Jackson Webber, who she affectionately called "Mother." Olga attended Coffeyville public schools and graduated at the age of 16. She received an Associate Degree from Coffeyville Junior College and attended Kansas University majoring in Physics. During World War II, she left college and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to live with another aunt and uncle. While living in Milwaukee, she worked at Allis-Chalmers Ammunition Factory. There, she met Isaac Ashley Heaven. The couple was married in Chicago, Illinois and enjoyed 63 years together.

Shortly after the end of WW II, the Heavens moved to Coffeyville, Kansas. Together, they established Heaven's Automotive Shop. Isaac was the mechanic and Olga was the business and accounting manager.

Olga and Isaac raised six children, Glen, JoElaine, Rachel, Edith, Isaac Tony, and Ashley Dean. In addition to her responsibilities with the family business, she spent the early years of her adult life as a homemaker and actively encouraging and supporting her children in their aspirations to be involved in sports, scouts, music, and church activities. In the early years, when children of color were not allowed to participate in certain youth programs, she would gather other parents and start scout and sports programs for their children. In the Heaven home, Christmas and birthdays were especially warm and fun times. The little she had was enthusiastically shared to the joy and satisfaction of everyone. In 1965, she began working for J C Penney's. After working for over 25 years, she retired as the manager of Catalog and Lay-a-way. Olga's hobbies were reading and writing. She enjoyed writing poems and sonnets for family and friends on special occasions. Through the encouragement of her dear friend, Gennetta Springer, Olga joined the Kansas Writers Club. She was an active member for many years and enjoyed traveling around the state attending meetings and participating in competitions. She won numerous awards. She was a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church. In her latter years, she served as a Deaconess and on the Trustee Board.

Her husband, Isaac Ashley Heaven, and one daughter, JoElaine Heaven preceded Olga in death. Survivors include three sons: Glen Heaven, Atlanta, GA; Isaac Anthony ‘Tony' Heaven, Coffeyville, KS; and Ashley Dean Heaven (Manami), Lynnwood, Washington; two daughters: Rachel Norwood (Gerald), Wichita, KS; and Edith Thomas (Leonard, Sr.), Peoria, IL; 16 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren, and dear friends.
