Richard DeanDick Felts Age 73, formerly of Liberty, Kansas died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, South Carolina. Dick was born to Frank L. and Bertha Elizabeth Hammond Felts near Liberty, Kansas, on December 2, 1930, and spent his youth in the Liberty, Mound Valley and Coffeyville areas and in Compton and Clearwater, California, having attended schools in each of these locations. On August 20, 1950, Dick married Maxine Bushnell in Las Vegas, Nevada. He served with the United States Army Signal Corps Reserves in Coffeyville from 1951 to 1957. He was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company, Dixon Manufacturing Company, Inc. and Continental Can Company, Inc. of Coffeyville while also farming part-time. Beginning in 1959 and for ten years thereafter, he farmed full time on Route 1, Coffeyville. In 1969, the family relocated to central Florida where he was employed as Plant superintendent for Redi-Foods, Division of A. Duda and Sons, Inc., Lake Jem, Florida. After retiring in 1991 from Redi-Foods, he engaged in yard work, extensive traveling and workshop hobbies. In 1999 Dick and Maxine relocated to Westminster, South Carolina, where he continued to enjoy his retirement. Dick was loved by his family and will be remembered fondly for his caring, generous and kind nature. He is survived by: his wife, Maxine, of the home near Westminster, South Carolina one son, Dr. Mark Felts, of Marathon, Florida two daughters, Linda Gable, of Maitland, Florida Deana Bethea, of Toccoa, Georgia three brothers, Max Felts, of Coffeyville, Kansas Wayne Felts, of Liberty, Kansas Frank Felts, of Wichita, Kansas eleven grandchildren, Nicholas Gable, of Mesa, Arizona; Cpl. Daniel Gable, USMC, stationed in Fallujah, Iraq; Benjamin, Peter, Stephen and Mark Gable, of Maitland, Florida; Zachary, Caleb and Abigail Bethea, of Toccoa, Georgia; Yana Byazrova and Robert Felts, of Marathon, Florida. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 16 at Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, Kansas. Friends may call to sign the guest book Monday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Graves Chapel, 1117 West 8th Street, Coffeyville, Kansas. Arrangements are being handled by Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, Coffeyville, Kansas.
