Robert Ruark

Robert "Neil" Ruark, age 97, of Coffeyville, KS, passed away July 21, 2015 at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, OK.

Neil was born to Robert and Dottie (Dartnell) Ruark in rural Labette County, on November 23, 1917. He attended grammar school in rural Labette and graduated from Labette County High School in 1937.

After high school Neil went to work on various farms and mines in Colorado and Nevada any work during the depression he accepted up until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1939. Neil served proudly and humbly during World War II, where he was a B-24 pilot for the Eighth Air Force. For his service he was awarded several medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his active service he was a member of the AF reserve until he retired after 30 years with a rank of Lt. Colonel.

After the war Neil made his home in Cherryvale where he met the love of his life, Norma Mishler the couple were united in marriage on November 4, 1950. The couple made their home in Coffeyville where they were blessed with two sons.

In his leisure time Neil enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various sports but especially basketball, he enjoyed watching sports on tv, he was a very active member of the Westside Christian Church and the Joy Club, and he enjoyed going to the Senior Center on Mondays. Above all Neil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, soldier, and friend.

Left to honor his memory are his two sons, David (Carla) Ruark and Roger Ruark, Grandsons Max (Lisa) and Mitch (Marty) Ruark, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and a sister.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Monday July 27, 2015 at 10:30 a. m. at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, KS with Pastor Mike Elrod officiating. Friends are invited to sign the register on Friday July 23, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials in Neil's honor be made out to Westside Christian Church or The Journey Home they may be sent in care of the Chapel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.
