Ruby Burks

Ruby D. Burks, 87, of Edna, Kansas passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at her daughter's home in Edna, Kansas surrounded by her family.

Ruby was born on October 7, 1927 in Edna, Kansas to Irvin and Opal (Hayes) Spencer. She grew up in Edna where she attended school. To those who knew her, she was a jack-of-all-trades. She owned and operated numerous businesses in Kansas and California.

She was a member of the Crosstimbers Community Church in Edna, Kansas; she enjoyed crocheting, dancing, planting flowers, playing cards and trying her luck at the casino. Most of all, she loved the time she spent with family and friends.

Ruby is survived by her son, Hank Burks, Jr. and wife, Donna of St. Joseph, MO; daughter, Darlene Rexwinkle and husband, Donnie; grandchildren, Keith Burks and wife, Lyne of Simi Valley, CA, Nyoka Tonya Lewis and husband, Bobby of Mololla, OR, Tonya Bradley and husband, Caleb of Manhattan, KS, Brian Rexwinkle and wife, Alison of South Coffeyville, OK; great grandchildren, Ben Burks, Christian Burks, Jackson Bradley, Bryson Rexwinkle and Brooks Rexwinkle; sister, Velma Cranor and husband, Robert of Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Opal; husband, Elic Henry Burks, Sr.; son, Ray Burks and sister, Pearl Warren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, KS. Pastor Mark Wettengel will officiate. Burial will follow at the North Edna Elm Grove Cemetery in Edna, KS.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to the Crosstimbers Community Food Pantry, PO Box 363, Edna, KS 67342; these may also be left with the funeral home.
