SCOTT GRIFFIN Age 88, of Coffeyville, Kansas died late Tuesday morning, August 10, 2004 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Griffin was born November 30, 1915 in Memphis, Tennessee and adopted shortly after birth by Ira Thomas and Dellie D. Stansell Griffin. He was raised in Helena, Arkansas where he also received his education. In his younger years, he worked on the Mississippi River on the riverboat Luther B. Sprague and later he worked for several years for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad as a brakeman out of the Helena yards and later, as a switchman in the Coffeyville yards. He began his employment with Cooperative Refinery Association in 1950, retiring in 1979 after 29 years of service. He had been a resident of Windsor Place in the Oxford Unit since April 13, 1998. On June 7, 1940 he married Elizabeth Higginson McBride. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 123 and a former member of the First Christian Church. Mr. Griffin is survived by: His wife, Elizabeth, of the home Two sons, David Griffin, of Cherryvale, Kansas Dr. Mark Griffin, of Overland Park, Kansas Five daughters, Jan Juel, of Gastonia, North Carolina Kristi Pierce, of Indianapolis, Indiana Gay Andrasko, of Tulsa, Oklahoma Jerry Wilkins, of Gardner, Kansas Macy Bell, of Houston, Texas 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Friday, August 13 at Fairview Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, also Coffeyville, Thursday 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday until 1 p.m. Friends should gather at the gravesite prior to service time.
