Sheryl L. Garr, loving wife, mother, and friend, passed away on March 19, 2024, after battling pancreatic cancer. She was born on September 12, 1957, in Peoria, Illinois, to Bennie and Judith Manley.
Sheryl and her family resided in several states because of her father’s profession until they settled in Edna, Kansas when she was 5 years old. There, she attended grade school and eventually graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont, KS. She then attended Coffeyville Junior College where she met the love of her life: Dennis Garr. Sheryl and Dennis exchanged vows on August 8, 1976, and, shortly after their nuptials, moved to Manhattan, KS where Sheryl completed her bachelor’s degree in animal science at Kansas State University.
After moving to Oklahoma and Montana for various job opportunities, Dennis and Sheryl moved to North Carolina where they were blessed with the birth of their first son, Andy. The three then moved to Stillwater, OK where they were blessed with the birth of their second son, Dillon. The family would then move to Nevada, MO before ultimately calling Springdale, AR home.
Professionally, Sheryl found her calling as the manager of various western wear retail stores across the country. Her commitment to work meant she could do it all - from producing radio ads, to finding and buying the latest fashions at market, to planning ‘Teddy Bear Roundups’ for less fortunate children. She also took special pride in sponsoring local rodeos and pageants. Sheryl could sell anyone a pair of cowboy boots and genuinely enjoyed making sure her customers left Boots and Spurs Western Outfitters looking rodeo ready.
Sheryl's unwavering work ethic was important to her, but her journey was defined by her love for her two boys, Dillon and Andy. In her leisure time, Sheryl cherished attending concerts and rodeos with her family, especially when traveling to the National Finals Rodeo. A recent highlight was attending a Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden with her beloved sons. Sheryl valued these moments of joy and shared them wholeheartedly with her family. Sheryl especially enjoyed recounting fun and adventurous stories of her past with her beloved grandchildren. Sheryl's presence will be deeply missed by her surviving family members: her loving mother Judith Manley; devoted sons Andy Garr (wife Jessica) and Dillon Garr (wife Amanda); cherished granddaughters Kailey, Riley, and Allie Garr; brother Barry Manley (wife Terri); and sister Joyce Helms.
Sheryl was reunited in heaven with her father Bennie Manley and husband Dennis Garr. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing Sheryl.
A Visitation will be held on March 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 223 Delaware St. in Edna, KS. The Graveside Service is scheduled for March 27 at North Edna Cemetery, north of Edna on Highway 101 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made payable to: Washington Regional J.B. Hunt Transport Services Cancer Support Home and may be mailed or left in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
Sheryl's legacy of hard work, love for family, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who were touched by her kindness. May she rest in eternal peace.
