Steven Floyd Avery

Steven Floyd Avery, age 73, of Caney, KS, passed away July 28, 2026, in Tulsa, OK.

Steven was born in Coffeyville, KS to Floyd and Viola (Wilson) Avery. He grew up in rural Tyro and graduated from Caney. He went to CCC and attended trade school as a machinist.

He first met Pamela Norris through friends of his brother Mike, but Pam’s first impression of Steven was him knocking out the overhead lights at the A&W with the headache rack of his hay truck. He and Pam were married in the First Southern Baptist church on October 18, 1974. They lived in Coffeyville for the first 20 years of their marriage and then moved to their current home in Caney. He worked at ACME and retired after 36 years.

Steven had hobbies of gardening, fishing, refurbishing items, and antiquing. He would buy antiques and sell them in the 100-mile highway sale. He also was an avid football fan and loved the Kansas City Chiefs.

Steven’s most favorite thing though, was being a grandpa, and he was great at being a grandpa. He loved his family, loved his boys, and was a very caring husband. Steven was a devoted Christian man. He actively attended church and was lovingly known as Mr. Coffee.

Steven is survived by his loving wife, Pamela; his sons, Travis and wife Jessica, and James “Jimmy” and wife Brandi; his grandchildren Maliah, Charleigh, Ethan, Emeri, Abby, and Lilah; Brother, Mike Avery and wife Gayle; Sisters, Jo Owens, and Linda Walls and husband Clint. He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Viola, and his brother-in-law, Dave.

Book signing and viewing will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 1-5pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. The funeral service will be held at First Southern Baptist, 2701 W 8th St, Coffeyville, Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Niotaze Cemetery following service.
