Thelma Patterson

Thelma Marie Patterson, age 89, of Goddard and formerly of Coffeyville, went to be the Lord on August 10, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital.

Thelma was born on June 27, 1927 in Eureka, KS to John Sherman and Gertrude Isabel (Raymond) Steeby. She attended elementary school in Pawhuska, OK, until the family moved to Altamont, where she graduated from Labette County Community High School. She furthered her education at Coffeyville Junior College, and continued on to Pittsburg State Teacher's College, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. While waitressing in Altamont, she met Harold Patterson. The couple dated for five years, and on June 25, 1949, Thelma and Harold were united in marriage. They were blessed with two daughters. Thelma devoted her life to education, teaching for over 40 years. Thelma enjoyed crafts, quilting, roller skating, pitch, and bingo. She always enjoyed going to her children's school and sports events, and in later years, the events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma was a member of the Red Hat Society, ADK Teachers Association, Eastern Star, Valeda Friendly Neighbors and the White Shrine.

Those left to honor her memory are: her husband Harold; two daughters, Dee Morey and husband David, Dena Purkey and husband Mike; brother John Steeby and wife Deloris; sister Carole Patterson; grandchildren: Patricia Norris, Shawn Morey, Chris, Jay and Kaitlyn Purkey; great-grandchildren: Christopher and Codith Norris, Cyler Adkins, Paige and Peyton Morey, Hazel, Hendrix, Jayden, and Charlee Ann Purkey.
