Treva “Maxine” Butler, 98, died on December 25, 2023, in Coffeyville, Kansas at Medicalodges on Midland.  She was born in Caney, Kansas on July 26, 1925, to Perry Edgar and Nellie Alma (Cherry) Freeman. Maxine and her sister Pauline and brother Eddie were orphaned by 1939 and never lived together again, as they were split and raised by different relatives.  Maxine graduated from Caney High School in the class of 1943 and took a job as a secretary in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.   She married George William (Bill) Butler, of Ralston, Oklahoma in August of 1943 during his leave of absence from the US Army Air Corps.

Maxine and Bill settled in Coffeyville in 1946 and began their family.  William Michael (November 1946) and Linda Sheryl (December 1948) were born and lived in Edgewood. Robert Steven followed in March 1961 and Christopher Jon in October 1964, after they built their house on Home street where she lived for forty years.  Maxine worked at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital in the cardiac and intensive care units and provided home health care to people in the Coffeyville area. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and was active in her Sunday School group.

After she retired from the hospital, she moved to Wichita to help care for grandchildren. Later she returned to Coffeyville. She is survived by children Linda Eaton of Tropic Utah, Robert of Annapolis MD, and Christopher of Wichita, Daughters-in-Law Doris and Carol, and son-in-Law Jeff, grandchildren Erica, Derek, Kirsten, Karen Beth and Alexa, and great grandchildren Eli, Emery, Zoey and Aurora. She is predeceased by husband George William (Bill) and son William Michael (Mike). 

Funeral services will be held at First Southern Baptist Church, 2701 W 8th, in Coffeyville on January 6, 2024, at 2pm with Steven Foraker officiating.
