Velma Mae Hufferd, 91, of Havana, Kansas went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas.

Velma was born on November 15, 1922 in Lenapah, Oklahoma to Alvin and Elsie Mae West Looney. She grew up in Lenapah where she attended school. In 1941 she was united in marriage to Jack Arie. Of that union two children were born, the couple later divorced. On October 6, 1947 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ernest Hufferd in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Havana, Kansas and south of Tyro, Kansas. Velma was a homemaker. She and Ernest had a passion for waltzing. The couple were so beautiful and graceful when they hit the dance floor, others cleared the floor to watch them perform. He preceded her in death in 2001.

She loved raising her family, baking, cooking, gardening, spending time with all her family and watching the grandkids grow. She won the Coffeyville Cookoff in past years for her wonderful cookies. She enjoyed collecting elephants and nutcrackers.

Surviving to honor her memory are her children, Jo Ann Daniels and husband, Jack of Elk City, Kansas, and Ernest E. Hufferd of Caney, Kansas. She is also survived by her soninlaw, Mark Shuler of Havana, Kansas twenty four grandchildren numerous great and greatgreat grandchildren and by a very special niece and nephew, to which she will always be remembered as Aunt Toot.

In addition to her parents, Alvin and Elsie and loving husband, Ernest, she was also preceded in death by daughters, Anna D. Arie and Patricia M. Shuler son, Gerald D. Arie and by a brother, Alvin D. Looney.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Veterans Patio at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Evangelist David Bycroft will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas from 10am8pm. Family will greet friends Monday evening at the funeral home from 6pm8pm. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Tyro Christian Church or to St. Judes Childrens Hospital these may be left with the funeral home.
