James A. Hoggatt age 97 passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at CRMC in Coffeyville, Kansas.

James was known by his family and friends by Jim.  He was born on September 18, 1925, in Coffeyville, Kansas. He grew up attending Coffeyville Schools graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School.

As a young man he served in the US Navy during WWII in the Normandy Invasion.  Jim felt himself very lucky to have returned home alive and blessed to have had no injuries.  He was a proud veteran and was a member of the Coffeyville VFW and American Legion.

After returning home from WWII, he married Blanche.  Together they had three sons, Randall, James W., and Jamie.  The couple later divorced.

Late in life Jim married Betty Smith of Coffeyville in 1981. Together, the couple enjoyed traveling to every state in 3 different motor homes, owned 3 motorcycles, and numerous cars.  Betty preceded him in death in 2008.

November 10, 2010, Jim married a long-time friend Darlene Fisher.  Jim had been a good friend of her late husband LeRoy and the two enjoyed each other’s company and fell in love and after the passing of their spouses.  She preceded him in death in 2022.

Jim worked as a manager for Dixon Industries for many years.  After Dixon Industries relocated, he worked several odd jobs.  His true passion was music and played in several bands.  For over 10 years the band he started called  Jim Hoggatt and the Boys played weekly at the VFW in Coffeyville.

Jim is survived by one son, James W. Hoggatt, stepdaughters, Kathryn Newhall, Kay Hicks, Glenda Cornett.  In addition to his parents, and two wife’s Jim was preceded in death by two sons, Randall, and Jamie Hoggatt, and two siblings.

At Jim’s request cremation will take place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.

Friends may pay their respects and sign the register on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS from 10am to 4pm.  The family has requested memorial contributions be made payable to Coffeyville Friends of Animals and may be left in care of the chapel.
