Jeffrey Mayfield

Jeffrey M. Mayfield went home to his Lord and Savior at 129 pm on February 6, 2022.  He passed peacefully in the arms of his wife, Christie, along with a very dear friend, Jana Sells singing him home.

Jeff was born on May 22, 1967, in Coffeyville, Ks to Kenneth and Wilma (Figgins) Mayfield.  He grew up in the Coffeyville area and out at his grandma and grandpa Figgins’ farm, east of Coffeyville.  He attended school at Field Kindley, where he excelled in Auto Mechanics in Vo-Tech, where a teacher once asked him why he was even in his class as he rebuilt an alternator faster than the teacher, explaining the process as he went.  He worked at several jobs relating to automotive most of his life. At one time or another he worked at all 3 auto parts stores in Coffeyville over the years.  In 1988 he bought his first racecar, unbeknownst to his parents and kept it at a friend’s house for a while as he was completing it.  He raced at all the local dirt racetracks, as well as working as a flagman and racetrack worker at each track, when he wasn’t racing.  He also ran a push truck especially later in life with his wife as a way to stay close to and involved with the sport that he dearly loved. He helped Bill and Doris Collins and family, build the Mid America Racetrack located in South Coffeyville, Ok.

In 1995, on Thanksgiving night, he was introduced to his future wife by her cousin, Amanda and a good friend, Rick Loffer II, at Rick’s dad’s house, whom he considered like a brother.  36 days later January 1, 1996, they became engaged when Jeff informed Christie that they were getting married.  They were married on August 3, 1996, at their home in Coffeyville. A short time later they moved from Coffeyville, Ks to Christie’s family home in the Noxie area, west of South Coffeyville, Ok.  Jeff continued to race stock cars on and off through the years.  After he quit racing stock cars, he got into racing lawnmowers.  He then moved on to racing RC (remote control) cars until his death.  Jeff and Christie enjoyed going to the stock car races at the local dirt tracks in SE Kansas and NE Oklahoma.

Jeff was working for Nowata Co. District 2 out of Lenapah, Okla., running a road grader at the time of his passing. He was very proud of the work he did maintaining the roads in the northwest corner of Nowata County.

Jeff and Christie were not blessed with children; however, he claimed his sister in law’s kids as his own.  He dearly loved spending time with them and watching them grow over the years.

He was truly an amazing husband and a very special friend to many people.  He loved his friends and considered all of them his family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Benjamin and Fern (Bryant) Mayfield and Arley and Dorothy (Pearson) Figgins, and his dad, Kenneth Mayfield as well as several aunts and an uncle.

He leaves behind wife and best friend, Christie of the home, and his mother Wilma (Figgins) Mayfield, as well as his half-brothers and half-sisters, David Mayfield and wife of Carthage, Mo., Kenneth Mayfield Jr. and wife of Marquette, Ks., Pam Waits and husband of rural Coffeyville, Ks., Diane Humphrey of Topeka, Ks., and Kevin Humphrey and wife of Tulsa, Ok., as well as several nieces and nephews.
