Joe Fisher

Joe Allen Fisher, age 86, of Harrison, Arkansas, formerly of Coffeyville, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021 at home.

He was born May 12, 1934 in Bethel Hospital in Newton, Kansas, to parents Evangelyne Fisher and David Mauck.  In 1936, at age 2, Joe and his older brother David were adopted by his grandparents, Reverend Earl E. Fisher and Hazel K. Fisher in Smith County, Kansas.  They lived in Topeka, Waterville, Kensington, Osawatomie, Greensburg and Cherryvale, Kansas.

As a teen, Joe worked for Wagner's Farm in Cherryvale.  He went to Cherryvale High School until the 11th grade.  In May 1952, Joe enlisted in the US Navy, serving in active duty until April 1955.  He served in the US Naval Reserve until he was honorably discharged on April 1, 1960.  While serving in the US Navy, Joe married Gloria Yvonne Garner on December 26, 1955.

After he was discharged, he returned to Cherryvale and remained there with Gloria until they moved to Coffeyville, Kansas to raise their four children, Randy, Twila, Roger and Tonia.  The kids were always busy with 4H, horse shows and dairy shows.  Joe and Gloria operated a dairy farm with both cows and goats.

He started his own business in 1961, Fisher Motor Company.  In 1969 he built a new shop in Coffeyville.  He operated out of that location until 1994, when he and Gloria moved to Harrison.  While in Arkansas, they continued to raise and milk dairy goats, at one point, having nearly 200 goats.  Gloria preceded him in death on September 5, 2009, after 54 years of marriage.

On March 29, 2015, Joe married Leah Rogers.  Together, they enjoyed going to the coffee shop and playing cards with friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his brothers, David G. Fisher and Steve Mauck, a grandchild and a great grandchild.
