Joleen (Moore) Hood

January 25, 1923 ~ April 4, 2021 (age 98)

Obituary

Joleen (Moore) Hood was born January 25, 1923, Coffeyville, KS.  She attended Edna Schools, graduating in 1940.  She moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended Tulsa Business School in 1940-1941.  She loved learning, and in that time, she was considered an educated person.  She loved learning and tried to improve the rest of her life, but not as curiously as she should have. (Her words)

During World War II, she worked for the chief of security at the shell loading depot in Parsons, Kansas – and later for the quartermaster at the Coffeyville Air Base, where she married Jack Dietz of Detroit, Michigan in 1944.  They were later divorced.

Joleen raised two daughters, Mary Patricia (Dietz) Zeigler and Terry Jo Dietz, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The three of them settled in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1960 when Joleen earned a secretary position with Conoco Oil Company in the department of research and development.  After moving to Ponca City, Joleen met and Married Howard James Hood (Jim) of Fairfax, Oklahoma. They would remain married until his death in 2009.  Joleen worked 25 years for Conoco and her and her husband, Jim retired and moved to Coffeyville in 1985 to be with her family.

Joleen loved reading, learning, crossword puzzles, and watching TV, but traveling was her favorite thing to do.  Joleen and her husband Jim traveled to all 48 lower states as well as Canada and Mexico. She called this her “continuing education”, and was very proud of her travels.  She loved all animals, especially horses and dogs.  In her younger years she rode with the Coffeyville Riding Club and with the Coffeyville Drill Team.  She was the proud owner of many different dog breeds, including Dalmatian, Schnauzer, Carin Terrier, Welsh Corgi, and Dachshund.

Joleen was an active member of the First Christian Church of Coffeyville.  She served many roles, including President of the C. W. F. and Moderator of the Board.  She was also a Deacon and Elder.

Joleen experienced a life filled with faith, family, Friendships, education, travel, good health, and love.  She will be remembered for more than 98 years of contributions attributed to her wit and her grit.

Joleen is preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Davenport) Haag, father, Jess Moore, husband, Howard James Hood, and daughter, Mary Patricia Zeigler and son-in-law, Phillip Zeigler.

Joleen is survived by her daughter, Terry Jo Dietz, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and stepdaughter, Jessica Irons, Ponca City, Oklahoma; granddaughters Kristin Bookwalter (Haliburton), Topeka, Kansas, Kelly Munoz (Haliburton), Dallas, Texas, and Kimberly Gardner (Haliburton), Moore, Oklahoma; grandson, Jim Ray Zeigler, Powell, Wyoming; 7 Great Grandchildren.
