Nancy Dixon

Nancy Hamm Dixon’s love and care for others didn’t come to an end with her death. It inspired those around her and will be passed on and felt forever. Nancy died February 22, 2022, at the age of 57 after a courageous three-year battle with brain cancer.

She was a wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt, and those who knew her will say that she was the ultimate fighter throughout her life. Nancy remained positive and cheerful despite having two open heart surgeries earlier in her life.

Nancy was born December 22, 1964, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Jerry and Norma Hamm. She graduated in 1983 from Field Kindley Memorial High School and Mid-America Nazarene University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts. She spent her life in Coffeyville; Lawrence, Kansas; Liberty, Missouri; and Shawnee, Kansas.

Nancy was a well-known childcare provider in both Lawrence and Kansas City. She had a wonderful gift in the way she cared for children. She was beloved at the Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City Childcare Center during her 28 years of service there.

Throughout her illness and provision of services at St. Luke’s, she was re-acquainted with many parents of children that she provided childcare services for previously.  In January, many friends from St. Luke’s and the community at large showed up for a car parade in front of Nancy’s home to show her just how much she really meant to that community.

Nancy spent the first part of her adult years as a wonderful aunt to six nieces and nephews. She was present for the births and other milestone moments carrying a comically large old-school video camera. Her soft voice is heard cooing at her infant nieces and nephews in nearly every home video.

She found love later in her life and she married Scott Dixon in 2014. Nancy and Scott reconnected one evening on Facebook. Soon thereafter, their love for one another blossomed into a wedding day in June of 2014. Nancy then became a wonderful mother to Zach, Joey, and Alex. Nancy loved Scott and the boys with all her heart. The Dixon's are a wonderful family which Nancy will hold together forever through her everlasting love.

One of Nancy’s favorite pastimes was fishing. She loved spending time catching catfish, bluegill, bass and crappie. Some of the best memories of Nancy were with family at their cabin.

She was an avid Kansas Jayhawks fan and ended her life as a loyal Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan and Loyola Ramblers fan.

Nancy was loved by so many and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her husband, Scott Dixon; sons, Zach, Joey and Alex Dixon; parents, Norma and Jerry Hamm, in-laws K.O. and Carolyn Dixon, a sister, Betsy Chappell and husband Jim; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her in-laws Darrell and Deborah Little.

To accommodate friends and family, two celebration of life services are scheduled under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Celebrating Nancy’s life in Coffeyville will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 304 West 10th Street, Coffeyville, KS 67337.  Friday’s service will be streamed live through Facebook Live on the Coffeyville First United Methodist Church Facebook page, beginning about 15 minutes prior to service time.
