Norman Traxson

Norman Dale Traxson age 85, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020 at his home on the farm in rural Angola, KS.

Norman was born on September 16, 1934 on the farm near Angola, KS to Clarence H. Traxson and Inez (Hoobler) Traxson.  He graduated high school from Labette County Community High School in 1952. After high school he attended Coffeyville Community Junior College and obtained an Associate’s Degree. In 1980 he received his Bachelors of General Studies degree from Pittsburg State University.

On February 20, 1955 he was united in marriage to Edith Ann Beal in Coffeyville, Kansas. They moved to Wichita, KS where Norman worked at Boeing for eight years before returning to the rural Angola farm, where he and Edith have resided for the past 57 years.

Upon returning in 1963, he farmed/ranched and worked as a machinist for Olin-Dixon in Coffeyville. In 1969 he began teaching machine shop classes at the South East Kansas Area Vo-Tech in Coffeyville. After 27 years teaching at SEK Vo-Tech, he retired to the farm in 1996. For the next twenty years he continued to work the farm/ranch while taking time to travel with their camper-trailer coast-to-coast as well as local events like the annual trip to the state fair and excursions with the Neewollah Camper’s Club.

Norman was a man of God who placed his trust and guidance in Jesus Christ. He was always considered a leader in the family, community, and his working relationships. He led by example and instilled a strong work ethic and a sense of service in all his children. He was a lifelong member of the Angola United Methodist Church, and served youth programs throughout his life such as a leader with the Angola Hustlers 4-H, as a SEK Vo-Tech VICA sponsor, and church related youth activities.

As his health failed him, his wit and humor did not. You could always count on that unexpected remark that got everyone laughing. He was proud of his family and siblings, and proud of his children and grandchildren and each of their spouses. He thanked the lord that he had the opportunity to watch his grandchildren grow and even witness the addition of great-grandchildren, noting that his father had only held one of his grandchildren before his passing. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Inez Traxson, and brother Larry Traxson. He is survived by his wife Edith Ann (Beal) Traxson of the home; four children – Ron & Patty Traxson of Peabody, KS, Debra & John Flick of Durango, CO, Tim & Vikki Traxson of rural Edna, KS, and Greg & Julie Traxson of rural Coffeyville, KS; eleven grandchildren - Tyler, Cameron, Courtney, Ross, Mary, Katie, Cole, Luke, Amber, Bryant, and Conner; and eight great-grandchildren; his sister Iris Huddleson (Mike) of Wichita, KS and sister-in-law Norma Traxson of rural Angola.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private family graveside will take place at the Richland Cemetery located two miles north of Angola, Friday, April 24, 2020. Friends are invited to sign the register and pay their respects on Thursday, April 23, 2020 from 10:00am to 5:00pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.
