Obituary

Roger Gene Lesslie age 72 of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away on March 6, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  

Roger was born in Independence on August 15, 1948 to Bert and Lula (Morris) Lesslie. He was raised in the Independence area and attended local schools graduating from Independence High School. Roger joined the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Vietnam War. He was honorable discharged on March 26, 1974 and he returned home where he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. Roger dedicated the next 34 years to the railroad before he retired. In 1993 he was introduced to Carla Ranes and the couple began a courtship for the next 4 years before they were united in marriage on June 7, 1997. In his spare time Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting, and archery, he liked playing horseshoes, taking care of the yard and mowing, and cooking outside on the grill. He was an honest man that had very strong ethics no matter the situation, he was accepting of others never passing judgement, he was good to everyone, and he never met a stranger. Roger lived by his own code of morals and was set in his way of that was just how it was going to be. He loved his family and loved being a Papa. Roger was a lifetime member of the VFW. 

Roger’s memories will live on with his wife Carla, his children; Kevin Lesslie, Shelly Lesslie, Billy Halligan, Paul Halligan, Shelly Shores, Alice Halligan, and Julie Spoor her husband Christopher, his sister Sonja Newton, numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. 

He now rests with his parents Bert and Lula Lesslie. 

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 1:00pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with military honors. The family suggests memorials be made payable to Compassus Hospice and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel 2405, Woodland Ave. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
