Stephen H. Pappan passed from this life on January 26, 2023, at the age of 80 years old surrounded by his family at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Stephen was born on April 30, 1942, to Opal Pappan.  Steve had seven sisters, Lisa McGregor, Paula Coyle, Mona Infield, Dana Jennings, Margaret Dudley, Mary Tucker, and Nita Richardson.  Steve attended public schools in Pawhuska, Oklahoma where he graduated from Pawhuska High School. He also attended college in Columbus, Georgia at Columbus College.

Steve married Bettie Davis in June of 1989. Steve and Bettie shared a love of helping children. He enjoyed helping with CASA auction and playing Santa Claus. He held numerous jobs throughout his lifetime, in addition to his military service.  Serving in the military was the career that he was most proud of, serving in the United States Navy from February 11th, 1960, to April 23rd, 1963.  He then served in the United States Army from September 28th, 1964, until he retired on October 1st, 1983. During his service time he spent time overseas in Vietnam, Korea, Okinawa, and Japan. Steve was very proud of the fact that he was a country boy from Pawhuska, Oklahoma and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the United States as an Army Combat Engineers. Steve loved horses and was a cowboy, he was proud of being Potawatomi Indian.

Stephen is survived by his wife Bettie of the home, children; Robin Faulkenberry, Susan (Mike) Barnes, Raymond (Angie) Davis, Kathi (Terry) Martin; sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and numerous other relatives, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his special little buddy Daisy.  Steve was preceded in death by his mother Opal Pappan, sisters Margaret Dudley and Paula Coyle; his grandparents Elizabeth and Sterile Morris.

Steve will be missed by all but never forgotten. His sense humor will live on.

Cremation will take place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.  Memorial Services will be held to celebrate his life on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 10:30am at Edna First Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Kalgren officiating. Stephen will be laid to rest on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Ft. Sill US Army Post Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma where he retired from after 23 years of service. The family has requested memorial contributions to be made payable to Wounded Warriors Project and may be left in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas.  Visit www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com to watch the live streaming of the service under his obituary or to leave a message of condolence or share a memory.
