Vergie Allison

Vergie L. Allison just celebrated her 92nd birthday on January 26, 1930.  On February 2, 2022, Vergie entered her eternal resting place with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ receiving.  Vergie was surrounded by her loving family in her home in Coffeyville, Kansas at the time of her passing.

Vergie’s parents were Neddie J. and Ida M. (Fuqua) Robison, she was born in Rural, Oklahoma just south of Tyro, Kansas.  Vergie and her nine siblings grew up in rural, Tyro and she attended school in Caney.

Shortly after starting high school Vergie met her high school sweetheart, Cleo Allison.  Cleo was four years older and after graduation he found employment that took him to El Dorado, Kansas. Not long after he moved, he asked Vergie to marry him and of course she said yes!  On August 13, 1949, the couple were wed under a tree at the church in El Dorado with his sister and brother-in-law as their witness’.

The couple worked and traveled together for McAfee and Toby’s Carnival Amusements in their early marriage.  When their girls, Martha and, Patricia were approaching school age they moved back to Caney where they made their home.  Vergie worked for the Caney Hospital in dietary until 1983 when they moved to Coffeyville.  She then started working for Coffeyville Regional Medical Center until the early 1990s when she retired.

Vergie and Cleo traveled together in their retirement years enjoying each other’s company.  They enjoyed going for an evening drive that often ended up going to visit the grandkids and great grandkids for the evening.  Cleo preceded her in death on May 13, 2012.

Vergie enjoyed taking a walk on a nice day, flower gardening and working jigsaw puzzles. Time with her family was her most desired way to spend her time. In her later years, she like trying her luck on the penny slot machines at the casinos.

Her daughters, Martha and her husband Robert Rathbun and Patricia Allison will miss their mother immensely; grandchildren, Melissa Bryan, Becky Rathbun and Robert “Bob” Rathbun Jr., and her eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren will cherish the time and memories they shared with their grandma; sisters, Lola Gillham, Martha Fowler, Clara Caltharp and Ruth Hicks remember the days of yesteryear and life shared together.
