Larry Traxson

Larry L Traxson age 79 of Loma Linda, Mo and formally of Coffeyville, KS passed away January 6, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Larry was born May 19, 1942 in Enid, OK to Lovell and Eva (Crown) Traxson. He was raised in Coffeyville and attended local schools graduating from Field Kindley High School. He then continued his education at Coffeyville Junior College where he earned his associates degree. Larry then attended Texas Tech where he studied engineering before returning to home to Coffeyville where he began his career with Funk Manufacturing in 1962. Larry would devote the next 38 years with Funk, even partnering with John Deere on a patent on the transmission. In 1991 he was united in marriage to Gail Stewart and the two were inseparable from that day on. Together they have off-roaded in their Jeep across Colorado and Utah, and pounded the pavement at countless car shows across the local states. Larry loved restoring, showing, and driving classic cars. He also loved people; he was without a doubt a people person and considered all of his friends more like brothers. He was creative, talented, smart, funny, and more ornery than most. Larry was always active in his children’s lives and the community as a whole; he served as the president on the Cherryvale School Board, he was a board member of the Rural Water District, the 1500 club, the stock club, the Dalton Gang Car Club, he coached the Cherryvale youth softball, and the Montgomery County 4-H leadership, and was a member of the Coffeyville United Methodist Church. He was a terrific husband, a great dad, and the best “Grandpoop” you could have asked for. Larry was a Christian and a True American Patriot.

Larry’s memories will live on with his wife Gail, children; Dustin Garrett his wife Shari, Will Traxson his wife Shannon, Melinda DeTar her husband Dwayne, and Jamie Traxson and Curtis Payne, grandchildren; Ben DeTar and wife Jessica, Katie DeTar, Jadeyn Traxson, Makayle Fisher and husband Kyrei, Grace Garrett, Torryn Traxson, and Kensley Traxson, great-grandchildren; Elsie DeTar and Ralph DeTar.

He now rests with his parents.
